Advertising Operations Coordinator
New York City, Full-Time
Harper’s Magazine is hiring an Advertising Operations Coordinator to assist the department in day-to-day tasks and help to maintain existing advertising relationships while seeking new ones for all platforms: the monthly magazine, three newsletters, and Harpers.org.

This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate with an interest in advertising, media, or publishing to launch their career with an established, legacy magazine as we celebrate our 175th anniversary. The role provides a balance of organizational tasks and solo projects paired with opportunities for quick and creative thinking, engagement with a variety of clients, near-daily collaboration with the department head and frequent collaboration with other Harper’s departments.

The Coordinator will work full-time out of Harper’s New York-based office Monday-Friday and report to the VP, Advertising. Harper’s is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and we are committed to diversity in the workplace. Perks include 15 days of paid vacation in your first year, summer Fridays (July 4th through Labor Day), competitive insurance benefits, and a healthy work/life balance. The annual salary for this role is $50,000.

General Responsibilities:
• Brainstorm, research, and organize leads for the VP to pitch. You will need the creativity to come up with new ideas (sometimes but not exclusively based off Harper’s own content and partnerships) paired with the organizational skill to keep contacts and notes consistently updated.
• You will coordinate all online and newsletter ads on an ongoing basis, maintaining the various schedules in Google Sheets and scheduling the ad creatives in Google Ad Manager, while also acting as the primary contact with advertisers to receive and launch creatives by correct dates and at correct specs.
• Oversee the monthly ad billing process and other occasional billing-related requests, generating invoices for advertisers and producing revenue summaries and sales reports using the Ad Orbit platform (will receive training).
• Once comfortable in the role, you will begin selling and overseeing ad space in the magazine’s Classifieds section.
• Other tasks include compiling a weekly forecast email of current and upcoming online ads; 2-3x/month content review of Google Ads; monthly updating of the sales comps lists; annual collaborative project of the Media Kit; occasional assistance with and attendance of events (an average 4x/year) other advertising-related projects that may arise.

Qualifications/Skills:
• The ideal candidate will be exceptionally well-organized, with the ability to multitask and manage various schedules, deadlines, and exceptions across multiple platforms on an ongoing basis.
• Excellent communication skills over email, phone, and face-to-face.
• Any experience with InDesign, Google Ad Manager, AdSense, Drive, Sheets, MS Office Suite, and/or Ad Orbit is all a plus, as well as knowledge of the publishing and media industry— especially that of Harper’s Magazine.

To apply for this position, please email your cover letter and resume to [email protected].
